Joint Exercise of Gas Storage CZ and the Integrated Rescue System in Štramberk
On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, a planned periodic tactical exercise of the Integrated Rescue System (IRS) units took place at the Štramberk gas storage facility. The exercise was organized by the Fire Rescue Service of the Moravian-Silesian Region. All core units participated in the exercise – the Fire Rescue Service of the Moravian-Silesian Region, volunteer fire brigades, the Emergency Medical Service of the Moravian-Silesian Region, the Police of the Czech Republic, as well as the Municipal Police of Kopřivnice and a team from the Mine Rescue Station of Štramberk.
The scenario of the exercise involved handling an emergency at operational well KL 159, consisting of a natural gas leak and a subsequent fire caused by a technical fault in the well valve, including injuries to employees. The simulated situation required a coordinated response from all participating units.
“Regular exercises of this type are essential for maintaining a high level of preparedness among our employees and for ensuring effective cooperation with the Integrated Rescue System units. They allow us to verify established procedures in practice and respond to specific crisis scenarios,” said Tomáš Diósi, Member of the Board of Directors of Gas Storage CZ responsible for operations.
Exercises focused on simulating emergency situations related to the operation of underground gas storage facilities are conducted regularly at all operated sites. They represent an important opportunity to train coordination in handling crisis situations, both for IRS units and for employees of Gas Storage CZ.
